The Sorely "Tire"ing Day

Did any of you read the children's book The Sorely Trying Day when you were younger? It was definitely a goodie. Today, Jeff and I had a sorely "tire"ing day. I shall explain what occurred through an exciting, one-player game of Boo/Yay:

I slept in a little this morning so I didn't have time to get dressed out of my pajamas before taking Jefferoo to the bus. Booo!

We left on time, with lunches packed, with Ferdinand the Second warmed up and and scraped and defrosted, with a thick coat for me and a blanket for us both, at 6:06! Yay!

As we were driving in the pitch dark, about 1.46 minutes of hilly streets later, Ferdi began to wobble and lurch in odd ways. We pulled over to the side of the road. Jeff went out and quickly discovered a flat tire. Booo!

We looked in the trunk and found the jack, necessary tools, and a spare tire. Yay!

Jeff started to jack up the car with the wimpy jack, and I held a wimpy little flashlight to try to help him see what he was doing. Jeff was only in a wimpy jacket in the miserable 25+ degrees below zero, and I was only in wimpy pajama pants in the miserable 25+ degrees below freezing. BOOOO!

A few cars passed by, and THEN a big truck bearing two wonderfully bright headlights and two wonderfully kind Hale-men (a father and son) parked in front of us. The men came out, cheerfully and Good-Samaritanly helped us change the tire, bade us farewell, and left. Yay yay yay!

Jeff lowered the car and pulled out the jack. The spare tire was flat. Really?! BOOOOOOO!!!

After some test-driving, calling of the PawPaw, deliberation, and more calling of the PawPaw, we headed back home, hoping for help. The ride was bumpy, crazy, four times as long, and then we were riding on the rim for the last 80 yards. But, we made it back! Yay!

We thought, "We could take Mahana!" But then we remembered: she is currently stuck to the road in three inches of ice. Booo!

We went in the house and found that our dear Q landlord was awake! We told him of our plight, and he said he would be out in a jiffy. Yay!

We took off the spare--it was ruined and no longer any good. Boo!

Q came out, had us come in the garage with the flat tire (not the spare), closed the garage door, and turned a turbo-fantastic-amazing HEATER on! YAY!

After spraying the tire with soapy water, we found a leak. It was caused by a dinky, skinny, tiny little nail. Boooo!

Luckily for us, Q used to work with tires at Sears. He plugged up the hole! Yaaay!

Jeff noticed a large bulge on the tire. Q said it was larger than what he had normally seen, due to separation of the tire. He said it would be best if we bought new tires sooner than later so we wouldn't have a blow-out. Booo.

The plug worked, thanks all to Q! We put the repaired tire back on, left for GramMi's and PawPaw's, and arrived all in one piece. Later in the day, Jeff got new tires! Yay!

Tires = $500+. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

But, hey. We have new tires. Yay!

I have long been "tire"d out with the day. And the cold. And the lack of sleep. Boo.

I will now go hit the hay. YAY!

Goodnight!

poor poor juju! We just spent over $500 in new tires, too, remember? Glad you are ok.

That was a funny tale to read! I knew you were on the phone with Dad about tire troubles, but I didn't know all those details! Glad you did not turn into frozen popsicle statues.
